Blackheath Area Guide
Blackheath Standard has for many years been overshadowed by " The Village" with the prices of property in and around this vicinity beyond the means of most buyers, the search area became wider encompassing the area of Blackheath Standard. Once this started to happen savvy buyers realised the area offered many of the same facilities such as great transport links, yet still remaining within walking distance of the heath and Greenwich Royal Park. During their property searches other areas on the borders covered by our office were discovered such as Charlton with its enchanting village where substantial Victorian family properties can still be purchased at a fraction of those situated a few miles away. At Blackheath Standard there are an increasing number of independent shops and cafe's such as Mocha and most recently The Scullery taking the place of Gambardellas which had previously occupied its premises on Vanbrugh Park since the 1920's.

What’s your favourite thing about Blackheath & Charlton?
The green space, transport links into town and being in close proximity to Greenwich Town Centre and Blackheath Village. A lot of Charlton residents also mention this when I am valuing.
What is Blackheath Standard’s best kept secret?
Probably Greenwich Pleasance, the little park at the bottom of Westcombe Hill. It’s a favourite with mothers in the area and has a lovely café, small park and drop-in centre for toddlers.
Oxleys Woods is lovely as well and popular with dog walkers.
What are your favourite streets in the area?
There are so many I could fill the page but the roads around Rectory fields are lovely, it’s a conservation area and very pretty. I also really like Charlton Lane, as the houses are all different and some of them are really old.
What is your favourite restaurant in the area and why?
Buenos Aires in Blackheath is a lovely Argentinian restaurant and they do fantastic steaks. I like the ambience and the fact that it’s not part of a huge chain.
Where do you like to go to meet with friends?
The Richard I in Greenwich is a fantastic pub for a quiet drink or for lunch and dinner; it has been recently refurbished as well. Lots of locals go there, it always has a good atmosphere.
You have a lot of parks and open spaces in your area, but what are your favourite parks to go to?
Obviously Greenwich is lovely and my favourite as it’s so vast, there is something for everybody there like animals, play parks and café, rose gardens and tennis courts. I also go to Greenwich Pleasaunce and the deer park in Charlton (Maryon Wilson Park) for something a bit quieter and easy parking.
